Notes:
This gem was cut by me from a 4.91 carat piece of rough I bought in 2000. Well this is one of those times the seller sold me something that was not what was described and in all reality I do not think he knew it was not what he described it as as he has always been very honest and up front... But unless you polish a flat on the rough and use the Refractometer it is very hard to get an exact read on the rough; especially alluvial rough as there are no crystal faces to help you determine the mineral. Specific gravity can be used but sometimes minerals are very close to each other in specific gravity. In any case; it was bought by me as chrysoberyl rough back then and it was in a parcel; if you alter rough in any way; you bought it and cannot return it. So I polished one piece of rough and tested it and it was correct. So I bought the parcel; well 20 years later I cut this one and it did not react the same as other chrysoberyl; and I knew when it came to polish; this was NOT chrysoberyl... So after it was cut as with all my gems I test them; RI, 100x microscope, filters, etc. and this one is a zircon.. The rough looked like chrysoberyl but so does some zircons it seems :) Testing is key with gemstone identification; just thought I would share this little story on this gem.. Test, test, test !
