  This gem was re-cut by me from a 6.86 carat gem I got in a large parcel from my friend in Tanzania that has a cutting house. This material was very unusual when I tested the cut gems when they came in. There was 2 or 3 of the first gems I re-cut that I sent to the lab to confirm what my tested had evaluated but like with many gems I want that professional second opinion. Everything was as I had tested. Natural untreated grossular garnet with UV reactive properties.. Since then I have found out the trade is calling them "dragon" garnets for their change to hot pink under UV light. Very unusual and very neat; plus these gems make a very brilliant and lovely gemstone. No disappointments at all. Plus like with everything else in the gem world; they come out, and just as the word spreads and people really want them the mines dry up.. So like I have learned for over 30 years; when they are abundant or available and you like them, BUY THEM !!! I normally let the original cut dictate my re-cut and in this case they did a very good job on the crown but the pavilion was something else and did nothing for this awesome material. It is a very brilliant gem with unique properties. It will make a very lovely ring or pendant worthy of any metal. The price is less because I did not have to send it to the lab... as that adds another 100 plus on the gem as the report is about 100 and then shipping and ins. back and forth.. But all these gems came from the same lot and the RI is 1.735 and I did all the tests already as I do not sell what I do not know anything about.
