  This gem was cut by me from a 5.21 carat crystal bought in 1998 from Mark Licinni. It comes from the Morro Redondo mine in Brazil. It is a saturated color but not black; in all reality it reminds me of a dark Tsavorite garnet. I have cut many this color and it is saturated but has a rich lovely hue of the secondary blue and does return light through the table. You can easily see the blue when you rotate the gem on it's A-B axis while cutting. It is cut in a calibrated size for easy mounting. I have a half kilo of this material in crystals and although not dark C axis material it takes time to execute and orient for the best light return. You cannot cut these gems into true brilliant designs but you have to use a modified step/break facet design in the pavilion... I had almost forgot how to cut this stuff; so the next one should be better or not ! lol Just more fun for future cutting .. No treatment in any way and fully tested.
